COVID-19: Release People From Prisons and Jails Without Electronic Monitoring

In the midst of the pandemic, advocates for criminal justice reform and abolitionists are pushing for the release of people from prisons and jails. We strongly support these efforts. However, we want to make sure authorities do not add conditions of rerelease that subject those who have been released to further punishment and health risks. We are particularly concerned about the use of any form of house arrest or electronic monitoring (EM). During this time, where the general population is on movement restriction, adding barriers to those who have come out of prisons and jails is dangerous. Our collective health is paramount.
